The Office of Admissions is responsible for processing the applications for admission and for ensuring that admitted students comply with the established requirements. Likewise, the Office protects the confidentiality of our students’ files and emphasizes the careful selection of candidates with the goal of not only improving the student body profile but of also increasing student retention.
The Inter American University of Puerto Rico grants admission for a specific time during any enrollment period within the academic year in which admission was granted. Admission may be deferred for an additional semester. The student may request this deferral at the Office of Admissions. Admission to the University does not guarantee admission to a specific academic program.
Admissions Requirements
- Provide evidence of graduation from an accredited high school or its equivalent. The INTER may consider evidence of a degree granted more recently, from an institution authorized by the Puerto Rico Council on Higher Education, if the student cannot provide evidence of graduating high school.
- Provide immunization report (PVAC-3), if under 21 years of age.
- Meet all the specific requirements established for admission to the academic program of interest in the campus applied to.
- High school transcript, or its equivalent.
- Provide results obtained on the Aptitude and Achievement Tests (College Entrance Examination Board, SAT, or ACT).
- Provide immunization report (green form), if under 21 years of age. (Not required for students applying to academic programs offered completely through distance education.)
- Official transcripts (university to university.)
- Recommendation from the Dean of Students from the current university.
- Provide immunization report (green form), if under 21 years of age.
- High school transcript, or its equivalent.
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Original birth certificate.
- Copy of Social Security Card.
- Interview.
- Students from other institutions of higher education authorized to take courses in the Inter American University of Puerto Rico (INTER) to satisfy requirements of their current institution. These students will be required to provide a certification indicating the authorized courses to be taken at the INTER.
- People not interested in obtaining a degree, but who rather wish to complete coursework for personal or professional development. These applicants must provide evidence of the academic degree obtained.
- Teachers from the Puerto Rico Department of Education who wish to satisfy a specific requirement of the agency. These applicants must provide a letter from their superintendent certifying that he or she is a teacher with a university degree.
- A high school student must submit the following documents when submitting his or her application for admission.
- Copy of Social Security Card.
- Transcripts, permission from current institution or letter from the student’s superintendent, as appropriate.
Master’s Degree
- Transcript with degree obtained. (Possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.)
- Have a minimum grade point average of 2.50 in the last 60 credits of coursework.
- Copy of Social Security Card.
- Letters of Recommendation.
- Interview (Only required for admission to Master’s in Education.)
- Pay fee of $31.
- Comply with the admissions requirements established by the department or program applied to, as previously approved by the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs and Institutional Planning.
Doctoral Degree
- Possess a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited university.
- Submit an official transcript from the university which conferred the bachelor’s or master’s degree.
- Have the minimum grade point average required by the corresponding program.
- Have taken, within the five years preceding the application for admission, one of the following exams:
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
- Miller Analogy Test (MAT).
- Exam for Admission to Graduate Studies (EXADEP, for its Spanish acronym).
- Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT).
- Submit three letters of recommendation.
- Demonstrate reasonable proficiency in Spanish and English.
- Receive a favorable recommendation from the Admissions Committee, after an interview.
- Pay fee of $75.
- Comply with the admissions requirements established by the department or program applied to, as previously approved by the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs and Institutional Planning.
